Lavrov: I wouldn't like to join ban race restricting media freedom with U.S.
ROME. Dec 1 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry is analyzing the United States Congress' decision to deprive the Russian television network RT of accreditation, but it would not like to join a ban race in relation to media with the U.S., Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We are analyzing this situation now," Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano in Rome, when asked whether U.S. journalists could be stripped of their accreditation with the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"I am convinced that this is absolutely unacceptable for any more or less respectable and civilized country," he said.
"I can't say now what our response will be, but I really wouldn't like to join a ban race causing the media and the people who receive information on global developments from them to suffer," Lavrov said.
