Russia may help find way to overcome N. Korea crisis - French ambassador
YEKATERINBURG. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Russia can help find a way to overcome the current crisis on the Korean Peninsula, French Ambassador to Russia Sylvie Bermann said.
"We believe that Russia, which still has certain influence in this country, will help us find a way out of this impasse," Bermann said in a lecture to the students of the Ural Federal University in Yekaterinburg on Monday.
China's influence on North Korea is decreasing, Bermann said. "I served as ambassador to China and can simply say today that this country's influence on North Korea is decreasing," she said.
If South Korea takes some particular measures to resolve the issue of North Korea, this would lead to a crisis, Bermann said. "This could prompt a kind of internal explosion. Second, this would produce a massive flow of refugees. Of course, the reunification of the two Koreas is possible, but I think this would require the presence of American soldiers there. Certainly, we are against this," she said.
