Over 200 Russian athletes could potentially go to PyeongChang Olympics - Zhukov

MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - More than 200 Russian athletes could potentially compete in the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, but it is up to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to decide exactly who will participate, Russian Olympic Committee head Alexander Zhukov said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"According to our calculations, over 200 Russian athletes potentially have licenses. But it is a potential number. The International Olympic Committee will decide exactly who will participate," he said.

Zhukov said another reason why he could not say exactly how many Russian athletes could go to the PyeongChang Olympics is because "the process of issuing Olympic licenses is not yet over."

"I would not jump the gun now," he said.
