Militants killed in Karachayevo-Cherkessiya swore allegiance to ISIL, prepared terrorist attacks - NAC

MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - The militants and their leader eliminated in Karachayevo-Cherkessiya were planning to carry out terrorist attacks in crowded places, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC)'s press service told Interfax.

"It is known that members of this group had sworn allegiance to the international terrorist organization ISIL [banned in Russia] and planned to commit terrorist crimes in crowded places," the NAC said in a statement.

Machineguns, munitions for them, and improvised explosive devices stuffed with projectiles were found at the site of the operation. The neutralized militants are being identified.

There were no casualties among civilians and law-enforcement officers.

Operational search activities and investigative actions are continuing.
