Russian wheat harvest rises to 85.8 mln tonnes in 2017 - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - The Russian wheat harvest was 85.8 million tonnes in 2017, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in materials.

The harvest totaled 73.3 million tonnes of wheat last year.

Russia harvested 2.5 million tonnes of rye, about the same as last year, while the triticale harvest fell to 497,000 tonnes from 619,000 tonnes.

The corn harvest was down to 12.1 million tonnes from 15.3 million tonnes in 2016.

The barley harvest grew to 20.6 million tonnes from 18 million tonnes and buckwheat to 1.519 million tonnes from 1.186 million tonnes.

The rice harvest fell to 983,900 tonnes, from 1.1 million tonnes in 2016, millet to 316,000 tonnes from 630,000 tonnes, but the oats harvest rose to 5.4 million tonnes from 4.8 million tonnes.

According to preliminary data, the total grain harvest was 134.1 million tonnes this year, up from 120.7 million tonnes last year.

Russia harvested 4.3 million tonnes of legume crops in 2017, up from 2.9 million tonnes last year, Rosstat reported. The sunflower harvest declined to 9.6 million tonnes from 11 million tonnes, while the soybean harvest rose to 3.6 million tonnes from 3.1 million tonnes and the rapeseed harvest to 1.5 million tonnes from 999,000 tonnes.

Russia harvested 48.2 million tonnes of sugar beets, down from 51.4 million tonnes last year. The flax harvest (flax fiber equivalent) totaled 39,000 tonnes, down from 41,000 tonnes and the potato harvest fell to 29.6 million tonnes (including 4.2 million tonnes at agricultural organizations), compared with 31.1 million tonnes (4.2 million tonnes) last year. The vegetable harvest totaled 16.3 million tonnes, about the same as last year, including 3.4 million tonnes at agricultural organizations, compared with 3.1 million tonnes last year.

The fruit and berry harvest fell to 2.9 million tonnes from 3.3 million tonnes last year.
