About 600 Bandera followers holding procession in Kyiv

KYIV. Jan 1 (Interfax) - A procession on the occasion of the 109th anniversary of Stepan Bandera's birth has started at Taras Shevchenko monument in Kyiv.

About 600 people are participating in the event, an Interfax correspondent reported. They are holding state flags and those of nationalist organizations. A young woman moving in front of the procession is carrying a large portrait of Bandera.

A small number of law enforcement officers are ensuring public order. Four police cars are following the formation.

During the procession, its participants are expected to light torches and carry them to the Independence Square, where an assembly is to take place.

According to the National Police, a total of 54 mass events in 20 regions of Ukraine involving over 8,400 people are scheduled on the occasion of Bandera's birthday. A total of 1,200 policemen and 730 servicemen of the Ukrainian National Guard will provide security during them.
