Georgian, Ukrainian prosecutors to intensify cooperation - Georgian Chief Prosecutor's Office

TBILISI. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Georgian Deputy Chief Prosecutor Giorgi Gogadze and Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko discussed steps to intensify cooperation between the two agencies at a meeting in Kyiv last week, the Georgian Chief Prosecutor's Office told journalists on Monday.

"The Georgian prosecution service and the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office are bound close cooperation. These relations will continue in the future," it said.

No other details of the talks were reported.

Georgian media have speculated that Gogadze and Lutsenko may have discussed former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's extradition from Ukraine to Georgia.

The Georgian Chief Prosecutor's Office and Justice Ministry earlier said on numerous occasions that the demand for Saakashvili's extradition remained on the table. Georgia has repeatedly forwarded extradition requests for Saakashvili to Ukraine in recent years.
