Laotian PM tells Shoigu he looks forward to further cooperation

VIENTIANE. Jan 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Laos expects to develop military and military-technical cooperation with Russia further, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith said.

"We highly value the development of ties between Russia and Laos at the current stage. It can be said that everything we have in the Lao People's Armed Forces is linked to Russia. We will really be counting on the Russian Federation in the future," Sisoulith said during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Monday.

Sisoulith said that the country's defense minister, Lt. Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath, had reported to him on his meeting with Shoigu earlier on Monday.

"In the report, it was said that the Russian side attaches great importance to the implementation of agreements reached during my meeting with Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin in May 2016 and following my official visit to Russia last September," the prime minister said.

He wished Shoigu success during his official visit to Laos, expressing regret that it is so brief.

"Nevertheless, I am confident that the talks held will be successful," Sisoulith said.
