Tajik citizen charged with extremism in Tajikistan detained in St. Petersburg
ST. PETERSBURG. Jan 25 (Interfax) - St. Petersburg police have detained a citizen of Tajikistan who is wanted for fanning racial hatred and making calls to overthrow the administration of Tajikistan.
"Officials from Section 6 of Center E of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region have detained a 38-year-old citizen of a Central Asian state who is on the international wanted persons list. The detainee is charged with extremism in his home country. The man is also an active member of an organization banned in his home country," the press service for the Interior Ministry's St. Petersburg branch said.
An informed source told Interfax the man is an active member of the movement Group 24, which, along with the Party of Islamic Revival of Tajikistan, was banned by the Tajik Supreme Court in 2014.
