Russian grain inventories up 16.3% to 45.9 mln tonnes on Jan 1 - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Russia's grain inventories stood at 45.899 million tonnes on January 1, 2018, up by 16.3% or 6.432 million tonnes compared with the same date last year, the Federal Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

The stocks were 12.7% lower than on December 1.

Grain inventories belonging to agricultural organizations grew by 16.5%, or 3.79 million tonnes, to 26.766 million tonnes while procurement and milling enterprises had 19.133 million tonnes, up 16% or 2.642 million tonnes.

Procurement and milling enterprises boosted wheat inventories 16% to 14.771 million tonnes, including food wheat which grew 26.3% to 10.466 million tonnes.

Barley stocks among procurement and milling enterprises grew 5.9% to 1.926 million tonnes and rye stocks were up 4.9% to 570,000 tonnes, with food rye stocks up 4.5% to 516,000 tonnes. Oat stocks also rose, by 9.6% to 160,000 tonnes and buckwheat rose 3.6% to 101,000 tonnes.

Stocks of corn declined 27% to 1.32 million tonnes, rice - 4.7% to 45,000 tonnes and proso millet - 44.7% to 21,000 tonnes.

Stocks of other grain crops grew 76% to 211,000 tonnes.

As of January 1, 2018, the Central Federal District had grain stocks of 12.031 million tonnes, up 12.4% from year; the Southern Federal District had 10.076 million tonnes, 21.1% more; Volga - 9.288 million tonnes, 31.4% more; Urals - 2.787 million tonnes, 22.6% more; Siberia - 6.63 million tonnes, 14.1% more; and Far East - 426,500 tonnes, or 20.9% more.

Grain stocks fell 6.1% to 3.652 million tonnes in the North Caucasus Federal District and 5.6% to 1.007 million tonnes in the Northwest district.
