Other Syria settlement events possible, not necessarily in congress format - Lavrentyev

SOCHI. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Moscow may put other Syria settlement initiatives into life, not necessarily in the format of a congress, the Russian President's Special Representative for Syria, Alexander Lavrentyev, told a press conference in Sochi on Tuesday.

"Russia has the sovereign right to put forward various kinds of initiatives aimed to assist in the settlement of Syria and other conflicts," Lavrentyev said in response to the question whether another round of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi was possible.

"It is a different question what forms this may take. It may not be a congress, but a committee, but it will also promote the political settlement process," he said.
