CAS decision means full clearance of Russian athletes who filed suits, reinstatement of their awards, lifting of bans - Medvedev

MOSCOW. Feb 1 (Interfax) - The decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne fully cleared most of the Russian athletes who had filed lawsuits, and the bans on them are no longer effective, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"This means that the athletes who filed lawsuits are fully cleared. No bans apply to them any longer, their biographies are absolutely clean. And all the awards that they received have been reinstated," Medvedev said at a government meeting in Moscow on Thursday.

A total of 39 lawsuits were filed with the CAS, and 28 of them were fully granted, he said.

Medvedev said at the government meeting that he could not help but mention the CAS decision. It is an issue "that has concerned all of us recently and that has been at least partially resolved today," he said.
