Russian electricity consumption flat at 102.4 bln kWh in Jan

MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Electricity consumption in Russia was 102.4 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) in January, roughly the same as in January 2017, System Operator (SO UES) said.

This included consumption of 100.3 billion kWh in the Unified Energy System of Russia, down 0.1%.

Russian power plants generated 103.4 billion kWh of electricity in January, 0.6% less year-on-year, with plants in the UES generating 101.3 billion kWh, 0.7% less.

Thermal power plants covered most of the demand for electricity in Russia's UES in January, generating 65.4 billion kWh (+1.5%), nuclear plants - 16.8 billion kWh (-11.7%), hydropower plants - 13.6 billion kWh (+4.3%), and captive power plants at industrial enterprises - 5.5 billion kWh (+0.1%).

Peak consumption of capacity in Russia's UES in January 2018 was 151.615 GW, 0.3% more than in January 2017.
