Early Azerbaijan election due to 100th anniversary of creation of country - presidential aide
BAKU. Feb 5 (Interfax) - The decision to hold an early presidential election in Azerbaijan on April 11, 2018 is connected to plans to hold a number of international and local events marking the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic (ADR) at the end of the year, Azerbaijani presidential aide Ali Hasanov said.
"The presidential election in Azerbaijan was planned for October 17, 2018. However, starting in May this year, Azerbaijan will see a lot of important international and local events. Among them is the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the ADR [on May 28], an international humanitarian forum, and others. Most of these events will take place at the end of the year and would have coincided with the elections. This is why this decision was made," Hasanov said in a statement on Monday.
