Ex-Dagestani education minister charged with fraud arrested until Apr 5

MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax) - Moscow's Basmanny District Court has arrested former Dagestani Education and Science Minister Shakhabas Shakhov, who was detained on Monday along with other high-ranking Dagestani officials on charges of embezzlement of state funds, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"The court concludes that the motion filed by bodies of preliminary investigation should be granted [...] The court has ruled to put defendant Shakhov under arrest until April 5, 2018," Judge Natalya Dudar read from the judgment on Tuesday.

The court declined the request filed by Shakhov and his lawyer for a measure of restraint other than arrest. He said that he is innocent but plans to cooperate with investigators and will not flee justice.
