De Mistura, Syrian opposition members discuss creation of constitutional committee

MOSCOW/GENEVA. Feb 7 (Interfax) - UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura held a meeting with the unified opposition delegation (Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC)) in Geneva on Wednesday to discuss the establishment of the constitutional committee, a source with the United Nations told Interfax.

"The special envoy held a meeting with the SNC as part of broad consultations in light of setting up the constitutional committee this evening," the interlocutor of the news agency said.

In turn, the SNC member confirmed this information and told Interfax that head of the delegation Naser al-Hariri attended the talks.

"We have also discussed the humanitarian situation taking into consideration escalation, which has taken place last week in connection to the actions undertaken by the current regime and Russian troops in the Idlib governorate and Eastern Ghouta, and the issue of using chemical weapons," the SNC member said.
