CAS Ad Hoc Division dismisses appeals of 47 Russian athletes, they won't participate in PyeongChang Olympics

MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - The Ad hoc Division of the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has decided to dismiss the appeals filed by 47 Russian athletes challenging the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) refusal to invite them to the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea's PyeongChang, the CAS press service said on Friday.

"The Ad Hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the application filed on 6 February 2018 by 32 Russian athletes against the International Olympic Committee. It has also dismissed the application filed on 7 February 2018 by 15 Russian athletes and coaches against the IOC," the press service said.

Russian athletes who will not participate in the PyeongChang Olympics include short trackers Victor An, Vladimir Grigoryev, Yevgeniya Zakharova, Denis Arapetyan, and Artyom Kozlov, biathletes Anton Shipulin, Yevgeny Garanichev, Yekaterina Yurlova-Percht, Maxim Tsvetkov, Irina Uslugina, Darya Virolainen, and Alexei Volkov, speed skaters Ruslan Murashov, Yekaterina Shikhova, Ruslan Zakharov, Anna Yurakova, Alexei Yesin, Yulia Skokova, Yelizaveta Kazelina, and Sergei Gryaztsov, skiers Sergei Ustyugov and Gleb Retivykh, figure skaters Ksenia Stolbova and Ivan Bukin, bobsledders Dmitry Popov, Roman Koshelev, and Yulia Shokshuyeva, ice hockey players Mikhail Naumenkov, Alexei Bereglasov, Valery Nichushkin, Sergei Plotnikov, and Anton Belov. This group of athletes lodged their appeals on February 6.

Other Russian athletes who will not go to the PyeongChang Olympics include skiers Alexander Legkov, Maxim Vylegzhanin, Yevgeny Belov, Alexander Bessmertnykh, Yevgenia Shapovalova, and Natalia Matveyva, skeleton athletes Alexander Tretyakov, Yelena Nikitina, and Maria Orlova, speed skaters Olga Fatkulina, Alexander Rumyantsev, and Artyom Kuznetsov, lugers Tatyana Ivanova and Albert Demchenko, and also skeleton athlete Sergei Chudinov. These athletes filed their appeals on February 7.
