Home of Kizlyar gunman being searched, Dagestani interior minister arrives in town
MAKHACHKALA. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Police have determined the home address of the gunman who fired a hunting rifle and caused fatal injuries to five women before being killed by security forces in Kizlyar on Sunday.
"The security agencies have learned where this gunman lived. His home is now being searched," an informed source told Interfax on Sunday.
Dagestani Interior Minister Abdurashid Magomedov has arrived in Kizlyar, the city administration said. "Security in the city has been tightened. Dagestani Interior Minister Abdurashid Magomedov has arrived here," it said.
The Dagestani Interior Ministry had said earlier that an unidentified gunman fired a hunting rifle and caused fatal injuries to four women and injured several more people in Kizlyar before security forces returned fire and killed him. One more woman injured in the incident later died at the hospital.
It was reported the tragedy occurred during the celebration of Maslenitsa, an eastern Slavic religious holiday, and the casualties could have been parishioners of a local Orthodox church.
A criminal case has been opened into the incident on charges of murder and attempt to kill a law enforcement official.
