Russian diplomat, Assad's advisor discuss political settlement of Syrian crisis

MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - The Russian president's special representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, has met with Syrian Presidential Advisor for Political Affairs Bouthaina Shaaban in Moscow to discuss the need for swift political settlement of the Syrian crisis in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution N2254.

The meeting, which was also attended by Syrian Ambassador Riyad Haddad, was held on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The parties "discussed the developments in and around Syria with the emphasis on the need for swift political settlement of the Syrian crisis in accordance with the UN SC Resolution N2254. In this context, the parties held a substantive exchange of opinions on the outcomes of the Syrian national dialogue congress held in Sochi on January 30 of this year, and the task of implementing its resolutions," the statement said.

Shaaban is in Moscow to attend a Middle East conference organized by Valdai Discussion Club.
