EU ambassador to Russia calls for seeing Nemtsov murder probe through to the end
MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - European Union Ambassador to Russia Markus Ederer called on the Russian authorities to investigate opposition politician Boris Nemtsov's murder fully and transparently.
"Today we commemorate Boris Nemtsov, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, former Governor of Nizhny Novgorod and a leader of Russian liberal opposition," Ederer said in a statement circulated on Tuesday.
"Nemtsov has left an important political legacy, having advocated for a modern, prosperous and democratic Russia, inspiring many. His murder shall be investigated fully and in a transparent manner, to ensure that all perpetrators, organizers and accomplices are held accountable," he said.
Nemtsov was shot and killed on February 27, 2015. The Moscow Military District Court found several people guilty of involvement in his murder and sentenced them to between 11 and 20 years in July 2017.
