Safety must be ensured at World Cup - Putin
MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has demanded that the complete safety of athletes and fans be ensured at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
"There are less than six months left until the beginning of the World Cup, which will take place in 11 cities of Russia. We must hold it at the highest level and, first and foremost, ensure the maximum safety of both athletes and fans," Putin said at an Interior Ministry board meeting on Wednesday.
The Interior Ministry plays a key role here, he said.
"Vast positive experience has already been accumulated. I don't doubt that you will act appropriately and in strict compliance with the law during the World Cup, as well," Putin said.
"How this event goes, the image of our country, depend on your accurate, competent work," he said.
