Heads of Russian, U.S. general staffs discuss Syria regularly - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - The Russian and U.S. military have permanent contacts on the situation in Syria, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said.

"Active, regular interaction takes place at the level of heads of the general staffs between Gen. Gerasimov, the head the Russian General Staff, and Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff," Fomin said in an interview with Rossiya 24.

"An example of such interaction is that the first of the five de-escalation zones that exist now was created in July thanks to interaction between three parties. I mean the United States of America, Jordan and Russia," Fomin said.

The work was done following a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the U.S., he said.
