Border infrastructure must be modernized - Putin

MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the necessity of re-equipping the Russian border to suppress smuggling and drug trafficking.

"As part of the state border program through 2021, we will be actively working on modernizing the infrastructure of border sections," he said at a board meeting of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

It is necessary "to increase the level of border checkpoints' provision with modern means of defense and create reliable barriers against transborder, transnational crime, international terrorists, smugglers, and drug dealers," Putin said.
