Terrorist group member apprehended in Kaliningrad - FSB

KALININGRAD. March 7 (Interfax) - A Russian citizen involved in the activity of Jamaat Tawhid wal-Jihad, a branch of the ISIL international terrorist organization banned in Russia, has been detained in Kaliningrad, the regional department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said in a statement.

The terrorist was detained by the FSB Kaliningrad regional department in collaboration with the FSB department for the Baltic Fleet.

The officers uncovered a connection between the suspect and the leader of the terrorist cell involved in the St. Petersburg metro bombing and put on the international wanted list.

The detainee followed the terrorist cell leader's orders; he funded terrorist activity and helped find new recruits to fight for the terrorist organization in Syria.

A criminal case is pending on counts of aiding and abetting terrorism.

The detention of the Russian citizen involved in illegal activity prevented possible actions endangering personal, public and state security, the FSB said.
