Juncker congratulates Putin, stressing importance of Russia-EU relations for European security
BRUSSELS. March 20 (Interfax) - European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulating the latter on his re-election as Russian president, European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said on Tuesday.
"I wish to convey my congratulations on your re-election as President of the Russian Federation," Schinas read from the letter at a press briefing in Brussels.
Juncker stressed that positive relations between the European Union and Russia are crucial for the security of the European continent.
"Our common objective should be to re-establish a cooperative pan-European security order. I hope that you will use your fourth term in office to pursue this goal," the letter said.
"I will always be a partner in this endeavor," It said.
Juncker wished Putin success in pursuing the goals he has set for his new presidential term.
