Head of FAS' Dagestani branch arrested

MOSCOW. March 23 (Interfax) - Moscow's Basmanny District Court has sanctioned arrest of Kubasay Kubasayev, the head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service's (FAS) branch for Dagestan, charged with bribery, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"The court concluded that the motion of the investigative bodies shall be upheld. [...] The court ruled to impose on Kubasayev a restrictive measure in the form of arrest until May 22," Judge Yevgeniya Nikolayeva said, reading a ruling.

According to investigators, Kubasayev received bribes in the form of money and other property totaling 2.6 million rubles from Shamil Kadiyev, the director of Dagestan's Directorate of the State Construction Management Company, in 2013-2015.

As a result, investigators believe, he committed unlawful inaction and was engaged in general protection of the bribe-giver, by means of preventing the holding of auctions for the right to sign state contracts by Dagestan's Directorate of the State Construction Management Company.

A hunting rifle and a watch he had allegedly received as a bribe were found during searches at Kubasayev's home.
