Country cannot live without genuine opposition, Navalny failed to unite it - Kremlin spokesman

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - Russia cannot live without real opposition, and activist Alexei Navalny proved unable unite with anyone by getting over himself, the Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"How many times did he have a chance to team up with the likes of Gudkov, Sobchak, Nemtsov and so on, to enrich the opposition palette, make it more meaningful," Peskov said during a talk show with students at the Higher School of Economics on Thursday.

Navalny's ego prevented him from doing so, he said.

"In politics it is hard to be an egoist, one should be able to compromise, build blocs and coalitions. He proved unable to do so, he could not step over himself," Peskov said.

"And without the opposition, a real one, the country cannot live. There has to be opposition," he said.
