Shoigu praises Iran's contribution to Syrian settlement
MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has praised Iran's contribution to settlement efforts in Syria, which, he said, helped liberate most of the country's territory from terrorists.
"I thank you for accepting our invitation to visit Moscow and take part in the Conference on International Security, especially considering that the main theme of this conference concerns our countries and, certainly, our common work in Syria," Shoigu said at a meeting with Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami in the run-up to the seventh Moscow Conference on International Security on Tuesday.
"This work has produced a tangible result; namely, it helped liberate most of Syria, the principal part of Syria, from international terrorism," Shoigu said.
He said the two had much to discuss with respect to military and military-technical cooperation.
"But, definitely, the main subject is the promotion of security in this region, a transition to a reconstruction period in Syria, and the return of refugees to their homes, especially considering that this will be discussed at a meeting between the leaders of our countries in Ankara tomorrow," Shoigu said.
