Complex approach to removing risks, threats while protecting Russian borders needed - Putin

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - A comprehensive approach is needed when thwarting risks and threats related to border security, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a Security Council meeting on Friday.

"It is primarily needed to employ the complex approach in removing risks and threats related to border security. This is the reliable protection of our territory from terrorists and extremists, transnational and trans-border crime," Putin said.

This also concerns efforts to suppress drug trafficking and counter illegal migration, the smuggling of material and cultural values, strategic raw materials and bio resources, he said.

"Obviously, the result here directly depends on the precise and efficient coordination and concerted actions by all structures and services, both working directly on the border and being generally in charge of security of the state and our citizens," the head of state said.
