State Duma intends to look into situation surrounding Russian seiner detained by Ukraine

MOSCOW. April 10 (Interfax) - The State Duma decided on Tuesday to request that the Russian government provide information about the detention of the Russian fishing vessel Nord in the Azov Sea.

It was suggested that the State Duma's committees for CIS affairs, security, countering corruption, and defense "present their considerations on measures necessary to prevent such incidents in the future."

On March 25, the Ukrainian State Border Service detained the seiner Nord in the Azov Sea. According to the latest reports from Kherson, the vessel was arrested, its captain was released on bail and the crewmembers were released following the payment of fines for "crossing the border illegally."

Nord's captain Gorbenko was charged with "violating rules of entering or leaving occupied territory of Ukraine." He is facing from three years to five years in prison.
