Syria can build efficient air defense with Russia's help - Fed Council member

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Syria can build an efficient air defense network with Russia's help, Federation Council Defense and Security Committee Chairman Viktor Bondarev said at a Federation Council meeting on Wednesday.

"I should say that Syria is already capable of building a multi-level and highly efficient air defense system capable of protecting military and civilian facilities from strikes with Russia's assistance. I believe that the presence of highly efficient defensive weapon systems in the arsenal of any sovereign country will sober up hot heads not only of NATO military and generals," Bondarev said.

According to the Russian General Staff, it is possible to prevent airstrikes on Syria if the country is supplied with modern air defense systems, such as S-300, and has more trained specialists to operate air defense complexes, he said.
