Russian military escorts 2 UN aid convoys in Syria

MOSCOW. April 19 (Interfax) - The situation in the de-escalation areas in Syria remains stable, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The situation in the de-escalation areas has been stable. Russian members of the joint Russian-Turkish commission investigating breaches of the cessation of hostilities have recorded five instances of gunfire in the governorates of Aleppo, Latakia, and Hama," the ministry said.

Turkish inspectors observed two instances of gunfire in the Hama governorate.

Officers of the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria delivered 445 food packages (canned meat, sugar, tea, and rice) weighing a total of 1.9 tonnes to residents in the populated locality of Maaloula in the Rif Dimashq governorate on Wednesday.

"Two UN humanitarian convoys were also escorted. Twenty-three refrigerator trucks carrying 149 tonnes of relief supplies arrived in the populated locality of Tel Gehab in the Daraa governorate. Five refrigerator trucks delivered 32 tonnes of cargo to the populated locality of Al Taiba in the Daraa governorate," it said.
