Police detain 43 opposition activists in Yerevan
YEREVAN. April 21 (Interfax) - The Yerevan police detained over 40 opposition activists who had blocked the city's streets to road vehicles on Saturday morning.
"As of 1:00 p.m. local time (noon Moscow time), 43 people were taken to police stations," Armenian police spokesman Ashot Agaronyan told Interfax on Saturday.
Activists led by Armenian parliamentarian Nikol Pashinyan began blocking streets to road vehicle sin the sleeping districts of Yerevan on Saturday morning.
Protests organized by supporters of the opposition politician, who oppose the appointment of ex-president Serzh Sargsyan to the post of prime minister of Armenia, have been taking place in Yerevan since April 13.
Serzh Sargsyan called for dialogue on Saturday, but his offer was rejected by the opposition politician.
