Next Central Asian summit in Tashkent to be held in wider format - Mirziyoyev

TASHKENT. April 23 (Interfax) - The Central Asian leaders' meeting in 2019 will be held in Tashkent in a new format, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

"The meeting of the Central Asian leaders in 2019 will take place in Tashkent, in a new, expanded format. We have agreed on this with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow," Mirziyoyev said after talks with the president of Turkmenistan in Tashkent on Monday.

The first such summit, in the Kazakh capital of Astana on March 15, 2018, was held without the Turkmen leader.

The two countries agree on many issues regarding regional and international cooperation, the Uzbek leader said.

For his part, the Turkmen leader confirmed that his country was proposing a new format of Central Asian multilateral high-level dialog.

"We are proposing a format for regular meetings to discuss regional agenda," Berdimuhamedow said.

This should be an advisory, consultative body, he said.

The Turkmen president arrived in Uzbekistan on Monday for a two-day state visit.
