Freight haulage in Azerbaijan edges up 0.7% in Q1

BAKU. April 24 (Interfax) - Freight haulage by all types of transport in Azerbaijan grew 0.7% year-on-year in January-March 2018 to 49.766 million tonnes, the State Statistics Committee said.

The share of private transport enterprises in total freight haulage amounted to 79% while that of the state sector was 21%. Freight haulage by private transport companies was up 2.5% year-on-year.

Rail freight was down 17% in Q1 to 3.2 million tonnes, including goods in transit.

Sea freight was up 11.1% to 2.129 million tonnes. Road freight grew 2.4% to 29.5 million tonnes and air freight rose 35.5% to 50,800 tonnes.

Internal pipelines carried 10.124 million tonnes of oil in Q1, down 2.2% year-on-year.

Passenger trips on all forms of transport totaled 454,941,600 people (1.5% more year-on-year), including 610,200 rail passengers (1.7% more year-on-year), 2,700 sea transport passengers (down 35.7%), 475,700 airline passengers (up 7.9%) and 56.44 million metro passengers.

In addition, there were 397.412 million automotive passengers, including 381.601 million on buses (1.4% more) and 15.811 million in taxis (2.5% more).
