Kadyrov expresses support for decision to block Telegram
MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - Blocking Telegram was not a Russian thing to do, but the telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor's decision was made in the national interest and was therefore right, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said.
"I think it's not the right way. This is not the Russian way. It is the West, Europe, who can play like this. But we must be more dignified," Kadyrov said on the television channel Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) on Tuesday.
"If such a decision has been made, we support it. It means our country needs it," he said.
Security services do not need encryption codes to get access to the messenger, the Chechen leader said.
"I don't think security services need the keys there. They can get in and out anyway," Kadyrov said.
He added that he himself posts on social media and will continue communicating with people on VK, Mylistory and other services.
