New Russian govt has no time to waste, must act wisely, resolutely - Matviyenko

MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - The new Russian government will be facing complex and ambitious tasks of national development; it has no time to waste, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko told the newspaper Parlamentskaya Gazeta in an interview.

"The age itself is making demands of the new government. It has complex and ambitious tasks, and will have to act in a well-conceived and resolute manner," Matviyenko said.

"The Russian president has been clear about the objective: the country needs to make a breakthrough in its development," she said.

"This means there is no time to ramp up. Let me remind you about what the great reformer of the Russian Empire, Pyotr Stolypin, once said: 'There are long periods for reflection and historic minutes for decision.' A real politician should understand and even feel this difference and do whatever the age requires of him," Matviyenko said.
