Lavrov says strike on Syria by U.S., allies unlawful
MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - The unlawful strike on Syria by the United States and its allies has hindered the efforts to fulfill UN Security Council resolution on a Syrian settlement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference after meeting with his Cypriot counterpart in Moscow on Friday.
Russia and Cyprus agree that Resolution 2254 must be fulfilled, Lavrov said.
"We have described the efforts Russia has been taking in collaboration with Iran and Turkey within the framework of the Astana process and in furtherance of the recent Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi to create the best possible environment for the fulfillment of this resolution," Lavrov said.
"The efforts toward fulfilling the UN Security Council resolution have been seriously impeded by the unlawful strikes delivered on Syria by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France on April 14 in violation of international law under the pretext of the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government," Lavrov said.
