Protests in Armenia may have negative effect on border situation - acting defense minister

YEREVAN. April 29 (Interfax) - The ongoing massive protest demonstrations in Armenia may have a negative effect on defense-related processes, including the situation on the border with Azerbaijan, acting Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan said.

"Meeting with the officers of the 4th Army Corps, Vigen Sargsyan said the mass events being held in Yerevan and Armenian provinces may negatively affect the defense-related processes, including the army draft," the Defense Ministry press service said.

The domestic instability "may have a most serious influence on the border situation [with Azerbaijan], and some prerequisites of this are already visible," he said.

"Vigen Sargsyan prompted the officers to remain vigilant and consistent in performing their duties," the Defense Ministry said.
