Over 4,500 militants leave Damascus' southern suburbs after May 3 - Russian military

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Over 4,500 militants have been taken out of the southern suburbs of Damascus since May 3, a high-ranking Russian military official said.

"A total of 4,571 militants and their family members have been taken out of the communities of Yalda, Babbila, and Beit Sahm since May 3," the head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides, Maj. Gen. Yury Yevtushenko, said on Sunday.

Militants are also being evacuated from the former Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, Yevtushenko said. "Over the past 24 hours, 2,556 militants and their family members have exited through this humanitarian corridor. All of them were transported by bus to the north of the Aleppo governorate, escorted by vehicles of the Syrian Arab Republic's security service and Syrian Arab Red Crescent ambulances," he said.
