Five killed in mudslide in southern Uzbekistan
TASHKENT. May 17 (Interfax) - Five people have died in a mudslide in the Qashqadaryo region of southern Uzbekistan, the press service of the Uzbek Emergency Situations Ministry said on Thursday.
The mudslide occurred in the town of Mirzatuk in the Chirakchi district on Wednesday.
A search-and-rescue operation and remedial measures are in progress, the ministry said.
Heavy rain and a sudden rise of temperatures have increased the risk of mudslides in a number of districts, it said.
