Volodin doubts need for legislative ban on State Duma deputies from vacationing in unfriendly countries

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - Most deputies are unlikely to vacation in the countries that have imposed sanctions on Russia, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.

"As far as I know, most deputies are vacationing in our country. Clearly, politicians, deputies - if you speak about the State Duma - will not go to places that are unfriendly to us," Volodin told Interfax on Wednesday.

Some media earlier reported that representatives of the business community had suggested that officials, deputies and senators not vacation in the countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia or have joined them.

That may not stop some people, but such situations are few and the country's political elite generally vacations in Russia, Volodin said.

"In any case, everyone has heard this issue, it has been offered for debate and I think everyone has drawn conclusions," Volodin said, adding that he is referring to the political elite, above all else.
