TCG meeting in Minsk gets underway

KYIV. May 30 (Interfax) - The Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), which mediates the conflict in Donbas, has begun a meeting in Minsk.

"A meeting of the TCG to settle the situation in eastern Ukraine is taking place in Minsk," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry announced on Twitter on Wednesday.

The TCG's security and economic subgroups met in Minsk earlier.

This morning, the Ukrainian parliament's first deputy speaker, Iryna Herashchenko, who represents Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup, said she was traveling to Minsk "with a heavy heart." "Today there will be a very difficult meeting, because of the worsened security situation, the killing of children in Donbas, the stalled issue of hostage release, and the ICRC [International Committee for the Red Cross] being denied access to prisoners, because of the absence of Russia's response to the Ukrainian initiative to hand over 23 Russians to them in order to secure the release of ours, including Oleh Sentsov," Herashchenko wrote on Facebook.
