Fans traveling to FIFA World Cup via Belarus may produce e-Fan ID

MINSK. June 1 (Interfax) - Foreigners who will be in transit in Belarus on their way to the FIFA World Cup in Russia without the original Fan ID will have to produce an electronic version of the document to border guards.

"We realize that foreign citizens that will be entering this country and traveling to Russia for the first time may not have such documents [Fan ID] as they are issued in the territory of the Russian Federation. But they can print out the electronic version of the document which they get at the time of registration on the Internet," deputy chief of the border control department of the State Border Committee of Belarus Alexander Shpilenya said to journalists in Minsk on Friday.

Besides, in line with an agreement signed by Minsk and Moscow the Russian side will supply Belarus with information about the issue of a Fan ID to a foreign national which contains the number and status of the document, the birth date and citizenship. "So in addition to everything else we will have a certain database," official said.

Shpilenya also said that reinforcements will be sent to checkpoints on the days of an expected increase in the flow of fans travelling via Belarus. Separate lanes will be assigned for fans at some of them where the infrastructure permits.
