Rusal ships 2.6 times more aluminum abroad in May - RZD

MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - Russian aluminum giant UC Rusal's smelters shipped 197,000 tonnes of aluminum abroad in May, 2.6 times more than in April 2018, Russian Railways (RZD) said in materials, seen by Interfax.

Aluminum exports plummeted 70% month-on-month in April, when Rusal was hit by U.S. sanctions.

Aluminum shipments to the domestic market fell 11% in May compared to April 2018 to 49,000 tonnes as the aluminum exports rose.

Overall aluminum shipments grew 86% month-on-month in May.

Export shipments fell 16% year-on-year in January-May to 972,000 tonnes.

Alumina imports by Rusal rose 12% in May compared to April to 422,000 tonnes.
