Pantsir-S1 battalion to reinforce Crimea's air defense

ROSTOV-ON-DON. June 5 (Interfax) - The air defense formation stationed in Crimea will be reinforced with Pantsir-S1 air defense missile and artillery systems, the commander of the Russian Southern Military District's 4th Air Force and Air Defense Army, Viktor Sevostyanov, told reporters on Tuesday.

"All air defense missile regiments of the Air Force and Air Defense Army stationed in Crimea have switched to the Triumf air defense missile system. A regimental set of Pantsir-S1 air defense missile and artillery systems will be delivered to the formation shortly," Sevostyanov said.

S-400 Triumf systems are already successfully being used to protect ships at sea, he said.

The Pantsir-S is designed for the short-range protection of civilian and military facilities from existent and future means of air attack in any weather and at any time of day, irrespective of electronic countermeasures. The system also provides protection from ground and naval threats.
