Ukraine cuts coal production by 12% in Jan-May

KYIV. June 13 (Interfax) - Ukraine reduced coal production 12% year-on-year in January-May 2018 to 13.896 million tonnes, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry told Interfax.

Coking coal output fell by 7.5% to 2.698 million tonnes and production of steam coal declined 13.1% to 11.198 million tonnes.

In May alone, coal production fell by 2.3% year-on-year to 2.66 million tonnes.

Coal mining enterprises managed by the ministry reduced production by 7.6% to 1.853 million tonnes in January-May 2018. In particular, coking coal production shrank by 45.7%, to 216,900 tonnes, while steam coal output grew by 1.9% to 1.636 million tonnes.
