Russian, Armenian PMs agree on need to develop economic relations
MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - Russian-Armenian relations are developing "in accordance with the coordinated scenario, in a steady and dynamic manner," Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.
He said at a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that he was "glad to get mutually acquainted" and congratulated Pashinyan on his election.
"Armenia is our close ally, and together we seek an integration union, cooperate together in the CSTO [Collective Security Treaty Organization], and develop in accordance with the coordinated scenario. We coordinate our development in the social sector, the economy, and other fields," Medvedev said.
The two countries' governments should aspire for the further development of their relations, he said.
"Our relations are developing in a steady and dynamic manner. This is certainly related to our cooperation in the EAEU [Eurasian Economic Union]. It is also related to the fact that your economy has been showing good figures in development recently and our economy is developing. This is certainly the result of mutual cooperation," Medvedev said.
He said that he paid a visit to Armenia in October 2017 and that a range of good agreements were signed. He said he believes both the Russian and Armenian governments "should make all possible efforts toward their implementation."
Pashinyan, in return, congratulated Medvedev on the start of the World Cup and wished the Russian national team luck.
"It can be said that our relations are developing dynamically. Our relations have always been special; that's what they are and that's what they will remain. I don't doubt this, and I am confident that our relations will also develop economically," Pashinyan said.
Armenia's objective is "to make the EAEU more efficient. To that end, Armenia will aspire to work more effectively, and then our cooperation will indeed become more efficient," he said.
Pashinyan said he discussed all of these issues with President Vladimir Putin yesterday. "In general, our relations are already developing positively. We believe they are developing on the basis of respect for each other's national interests. Both Russia and Armenia have a lot in common in terms of national interests," he said.
This is a good foundation to "get in the right mindset for effective and dynamic work," Pashinyan said.
