Moskalkova to visit Sentsov in Russian penal colony in person

YEKATERINBURG. June 15 (Interfax) - Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova says she intends to visit Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov, who is serving his term in a Russian penal colony, in person.

"The roadmap envisages a visit with Sentsov, I plan to visit him in person," Moskalkova said in an interview with Yekaterinburg's Channel Four.

Moskalkova said Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Liudmila Denisova had not received permission to visit Sentsov on Thursday because the law prohibits foreign citizens from visiting Russian citizens.

"I have made a request to the Federal Penitentiary Service today to allow doctors, including those proposed by the Ukrainian authorities, lawyers or relatives, to visit so that an independent evaluation of his health can be made," she said.

Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Liudmila Denisova said she had been denied a meeting with Sentsov when she arrived at the penal colony in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District on Friday.
