Nazarbayev's running for reelection in 2020 would be better for Kazakhstan - minister

ASTANA. June 21 (Interfax) - Kazakh citizens will only benefit if the country's incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev decides to run in the 2020 presidential election, Kazakh Information and Communications Minister Dauren Abayev told reporters on Thursday.

"My opinion as a person who has worked close to the president for quite a long time, and also given the enormous experience the head of state has in politics, the economy and international affairs, including his authority on the international stage, is that Kazakhstan will only benefit if the head of state takes part in the 2020 election. I am confident of that," he said.

However, Kazakh Senate Speaker Kassym-Jomart Tokayev told the BBC on Wednesday that Nazarbayev is unlikely to run in the 2020 election.
